I’ve moved websites for the very last time. Daily content is now posted on lanastewart.com. Thank you for visiting!
Bed, Craft and Beyond
November 23rd, 2006

Feeling under the weather today - so I started churning out the Christmas cards. Once the rollout begins in December, I’ll post photos of the card fronts. Wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise.
Miso salmon with edamame
November 4th, 2006

I was in the mood for salmon, but I wanted to tweak it a bit. I’ve done salmon with honey and sesame way too many times. I did a Google search for salmon and edamame and this recipe came up… miso salmon with edamame. YES. (So what if it’s from Oprah’s magazine - who doesn’t love Oprah??)
It wasn’t too fussy. Actually, it was super easy. Look at those grill marks! Thank you Mario Batali cast-iron grill pan.
The result was de.lic.ious. Miso = my new best friend.
Sweet, it’s a pumpkin
September 30th, 2006

After seeing a similar cupcake on Martha Stewart, I decided to try it at home. Having never used marzipan before and not owning “premium” gel food colouring put me at a disadvantage. I think they turned out ok.
Chocolat
September 8th, 2006
I noticed a new home-design-decorating-shopping magazine on a stroll to Mags and Fags last night. Chocolat *appears* to be the Canadian equivalent to Domino. However, after seeing an article entitled, “Housewife Chic” - I think I vomited a little and then put the magazine back.
The Style Guide editor, Janette Ewen, is quoted in their press release
“I can’t get enough of this season’s latest trend - the hot housewife! From retro-inspired cleaning products to sexy home accessories, this trend is definitely one of the hottest this season.”
The website says it’s not on shelves until September 12, but Mags and Fags seems to be giving it a bit of a head start. I think it might need some help.
Kicking Horse Coffee… at Hartmans!
September 8th, 2006

I tried Kicking Horse Coffee on a recent trip to Banff - and loved it. I went to the same cafe every morning to buy it (and their coffee bean chocolate bar). I thought it was one of the greatest things about Alberta.. that and no PST. I was sad to leave.
Then, I’m shopping at Hartmans - and what do I see in the organics aisle? Kicking Horse. This made my week.
Tomatillo harvest
August 28th, 2006

I harvested my first batch of tomatillos. They are slightly larger than a grape tomato. I’m sure they’re supposed to grow much larger, but I grew them in a planter box that was WAY too small for a 5 foot tall stalk. I made this salsa recipe with them. Reviews were favourable… though, I think I used too much cilantro.
Orville turns 3
August 26th, 2006

Today, my cat Orville turns 3. I think. Officially, it’s been one year since I adopted my little orange tabby. Tonight - we’ll celebrate with Orville inspired cupcakes. Happy birthday / homecoming Mr. O!
On my desk
June 28th, 2006

I found On my desk from Apartment Therapy. Always nice to see how other people work. This one reminds me a lot of my cat.
The Daily Muffin (Dagens Muffin)
June 27th, 2006
Dagens Muffin is “Sweden’s greatest website about muffins.” Wow.

More than 500 recipes. (English version coming soon. Swedish, French and Finnish versions are up and running.) I’m keen to try the “olivmuffins” featured above. I’ll just keep my online Swedish-English translator open. I found it easiest to search for entries with photos.
